Meris Validation Activities at the Aaot Site
نویسندگان
چکیده
Validation activities for the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) primary radiometric products were carried out using data collected at the Acqua Alta Oceanographic Tower (AAOT) in the northern Adriatic Sea. The intercomparison between the normalized water leaving radiances LWN computed from atmospherically corrected MERIS data and above water radiometric measurements taken with the SeaPRISM system, have shown an extremely good agreement for three match ups of October 2002. The intercomparison exhibited average absolute differences within 12% largely explained by the uncertainties of the in situ measurements and by the spatial variability characterizing the measurement site. However, even though the results suggest a good performance of the MERIS system (the spectrometer, its absolute calibration and the applied atmospheric correction scheme), any final conclusion cannot be drawn before analyzing a more extended number of match ups.

Preliminary MERIS-Validation Results for the Baltic Sea
Validation of MERIS data was performed for Case-2 waters of the Baltic Sea. The area of investigation was focussed on the western part including open sea and discharge areas of the Oder river in the Pomeranian Bight. These activities included an overview about the variation ranges of the different MERIS products, methodical investigations, as well as qualitative and quantitative validations. Pr...
متن کاملLong-term Meris Land Product Accuracy Assessment Based on Vicarious Calibration and Regional Validation
Since the launch of MERIS on board of ENVISAT long term activities using vicarious calibration approaches have been set in place to monitor potential drifts in the calibration of the radiance products of MERIS. In this paper, a stable and well monitored reference calibration site named Railroad Valley Playa (Nevada, USA) is used to derive the calibration uncertainties of the MERIS FR TOA radian...
متن کاملApplications of the Meris Algal Pigment Products in Belgian Waters
Following validation activities and corresponding improvements in processing algorithms over the first few years of the MERIS mission, the algal1 and algal2 products are now considered as sufficiently mature for use in applications in Belgian waters. The utility of this product has been enhanced by the development of a number of multitemporal products including single point time series, multite...
متن کاملPerformance of Fapar Operational Products Derived from Meris at the Full and Reduced Resolutions
This paper discusses the validation of the operational Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) land product which corresponds to the biophysical variable of the Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR). The FAPAR value is currently and automatically estimated from MERIS data at reduced resolution and it can be computed using the full resolution using the same phys...
متن کاملMeris Imagery of Belgian Coastal Waters: Mapping of Suspended Particulate Matter and Chlorophyll-a
This paper describes a first application-oriented analysis of MERIS products for Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) and Chlorophyll-a (CHL) concentration in Belgian coastal waters. Regional algorithms designed for Belgian waters have been implemented and compared with the standard MERIS products, termed Total Suspended Matter and Algal2 respectively. The standard and regional SPM products seem ...
